Welcome to First Steps Nursery

"The quality of teaching is outstanding. The children feel secure and confident in the setting and are enthralled by the world in which they live." OFSTED Nov 2007

The nursery is owned and run by Clare Atherton, our Early Years Professional and Patricia Whitworth, both experienced, qualified Early Years Teachers.

The nursery is open from 8.30am-4.00pm during school term times for both half day or full day sessions. We accept children anytime after they are two and a half years old. Healthy snacks are provided mid session and a cooked meal is available for children staying across lunchtime. We are OFSTED registered to receive the Nursery Grant for all our three and four year old children. We also accept childcare vouchers.

About Our Children

Through careful planning and observation we offer a wide variety of activities that stimulate and excite our children. Some are adult led and designed to promote specific skills like letter recognition and number values, whereas many others are based around what interests the children. This may involve working together to discover how to make a fire engine out of a cardboard box or simply collecting crunchy leaves for an autumn collage.

All our children feel safe, secure, loved and valued. They quickly gain the confidence to develop and learn by exploring their own interests during their play whilst being supported and listened to by our experienced staff. During their time with us we encourage independence, co-operation and strong, long lasting friendships to develop.

About Our Staff

All our staff are trained to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and to recognise the importance of play both inside and out. Our team work hard to make sure the nursery:

- Offers a homely, secure and caring environment

- Meets the individual needs of each child

- Helps each child to feel confident and proud of their achievements

- Values the important role of parents and actively seeks their views and ideas

- Offers equal opportunities and is inclusive and supportive of all children

- Promotes good behaviour, respect and manners

- Promotes and encourages an awareness of the needs, feelings and cultures of others

- Plays an important part in the local community

- Offers an exciting and stimulating learning environment which is suitable for all

Our beautiful, newly developed outside area really enhances the nursery provision and provides a safe yet exciting environment for the children to explore. We look forward to showing you around!
